Several media visit the METHAGRO prototype in Vila-sana (Lleida), where biofuel is obtained from agroindustrials waste

LIFE Methamorphosis is researching technologies to generate biomethane, a renewable gas that compared to fossil fuels emit lower amount of CO2 into the atmosphere. The project, co-funded by the European Commission, has two prototypes: the UMBRELLA, installed at Ecoparc of Montcada i Reixac (Barcelona) and the METHAGRO, located at the agroindustrial plant in Vila-sana (Lleida).

On November 26, an exclusive day for media was held in METHAGRO prototype. Attendees learned about the goals of the LIFE Methamorphosis project, and in particular the operation of the METHAGRO prototype. The prototype, managed by Naturgy, aims to valorise organic waste from the adjacent slurry farm with the completion of biomethane for vehicular use and injection into the natural gas network.

Because of the success of this day, a similar visit is planned for the UMBRELLA prototype, which obtains biomethane for vehicular use from the municipal organic waste.
