Global CO2 emissions stabilize in 2019

Despite the growth of the economy, emissions stabilize thanks to renewables and natural gas

Emisiones Mundiales CO2 2019
Despite widespread expectations of another increase, global energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions stabilized in 2019, according to data from the "Global CO2 Emissions Report" released by the International Energy Agency (IEA).

After two years of growth, global emissions remained unchanged (33 Gigatons in 2019) even though the world economy grew by 2.9%. This was mainly due to the decrease in emissions from electricity generation in the more advanced economies, thanks to the increasing introduction of renewable sources (mainly wind and solar), the change of fuel from coal to natural gas and greater presence of nuclear energy. Other factors affecting emission reductions were a temperate climate and slower economic growth in some emerging markets.
